Our Town: Daryl’s House Rocks! – Listen to WPWL’s Interview with Daryl [WPWL Pawling, NY]

Daryl Hall, of Hall & Oates fame, has created the hippest restaurant/club venue this side of Manhattan. The completely re-done space is casual country…more barn-like than the old Mexican hacienda décor of old. Walls were blown out and the bar enlarged, so there was a lot of space for the SRO crowd. With mega improvements to the sound and lighting systems, Daryl’s House, as a performance venue, is tops!

The night we were there, 250 people were dining, drinking, and listening to the entertainer of the evening, Mutlu, a friend and sometime performer with Hall & Oates, as well as many other headliners. This particular night, the cover charge was only $10.00. Mutlu was terrific, with clear, sweet vocals and beautiful guitar accompaniment. The audience was captivated, but the place erupted when Daryl Hall joined him unexpectedly on the enlarged stage for one of the numbers in his set.

As the newest restaurant in town, it is well worth a visit. The food was absolutely great, the menu varied, with something for everyone, the prices pretty reasonable and the service quick and friendly. The Philly Cheesesteak is the real deal (take it from a former Pennsylvania girl), and the other six people in my party of seven were all impressed with the fare. Our group ranged from flaming beef eaters to vegetarian only! Daryl Hall’s influence can be found throughout the menu, with many of his favorites available for tasting.

Different seating times are available here, so if hanging around for the entertainment of the evening is not your thing, you can make a reservation for an earlier seating and be home before the crowds descend! However, on nights when entertainment is not scheduled, Daryl’s House is a great choice as a dining destination. Parties and events can also be held here with information about this available on their web site.

The crowd was a real mix of everything from Gen-exers to Baby Boomers. Everyone seemed enthralled by the amazing party scene happening right here in the wilds of Pawling! It was definitely a happy crowd, but I think no one was happier than Daryl Hall himself, who was clearly thrilled to have created this top notch eating and performing venue for everyone’s enjoyment.

So, If you are looking to try something new and exciting in the greater Pawling area and the lower Harlem Valley, make your reservation and run (don’t walk) to Daryl’s House at 130 Route 22 in Pawling. This could be the best thing to hit Pawling since radio!!
